// FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why does electronic shifting stop responding without warning?

Electronic drivetrains are IoT devices on a bike. They operate across three layers: power, communication, and mechanical. The problem is rarely where it seems — a communication failure can look exactly like a mechanical one.

What are the most common Di2 and AXS failures?

Layer 1 (Power): dead battery, abnormal drain. Layer 2 (Communication): lost pairing, outdated firmware. Layer 3 (Mechanical): broken cable, dirty pogo pin, misaligned hanger. Most field failures are Layer 1 or 2.

Which Di2 and AXS problems can I fix at home?

You can fix: charging issues, AXS re-pairing, Di2 crash mode reset, pogo pin cleaning, and derailleur hanger alignment. Do not attempt: Di2 firmware updates via Bluetooth, internal cable replacement in full-carbon frames, or junction box damage repair.

Why should I never update Di2 firmware over Bluetooth?

An interruption during the update can permanently brick the system. Shimano specifies that all firmware updates must be done via USB cable using E-TUBE PROJECT. A Di2 firmware brick cannot be recovered at home and requires authorized service.

When do I need to take my electronic drivetrain to a workshop?

When diagnostic steps don't resolve the issue, when you need a Di2 firmware update, when there's physical damage to the junction box, or when AXS doesn't respond after a factory reset. Correct home diagnosis saves you time and money at the shop.

Frequently asked questions

What electronic systems does this diagnostic tool cover?

Shimano Di2 in 11 and 12-speed versions, and SRAM AXS in Road (Red, Force, Rival) and MTB (XX, X01, GX Eagle) configurations.

What is crash mode on Shimano Di2?

Crash mode is a protection state that Di2 activates automatically after detecting a strong impact. The derailleur stops responding even if the battery is charged. It is resolved by holding the adjustment button for 3 seconds. The tool guides you through the full procedure.

My electronic shifting only fails sometimes — what causes intermittent faults?

Intermittent failures in Di2 and AXS are almost always in the communication layer: battery at voltage threshold, oxidized pogo pins, outdated firmware, or lost wireless pairing. The tool has a specific module for intermittent pattern diagnosis.

Do I need the E-TUBE or AXS app to use this tool?

No. This tool runs in the browser without any app or registration. It tells you when you need to open E-TUBE or the AXS app, but the full diagnostic tree works without them.
