HARDTAIL BEARING SERVICE IN TRUJILLO — ROLLING CONTACT PROTOCOL
A bearing doesn't announce failure. It degrades.
A bicycle bearing operates under combined loading: simultaneous radial and axial forces. The bottom bracket absorbs pedaling torque. Hubs transfer traction to the ground. The headset manages impact forces through the handlebar.
Every bearing has a calculable service life. The ISO bearing life formula:
L₁₀ = (C / P)³ × 10⁶ rev
Where C is the bearing's dynamic load rating and P is the equivalent applied load. When P increases due to contamination, degraded grease or accumulated play, L₁₀ drops cubically.
Preventive maintenance interrupts that process before failure occurs.
What Protocol Cr.08 covers
- Bottom bracket (BB): extraction, cleaning and repacking of BB bearings (BB92, PF30, BSA, T47 per frame specification)
- Front and rear hubs: cassette and rotor removal, extraction of cup-and-cone or sealed bearings per system (Shimano, SRAM, Tune, Hope, Industry Nine)
- Headset: stem and fork removal, cup extraction, race cleaning, repacking or bearing replacement per wear assessment
- Inspection of all bearing seats in frame and fork for pitting or brinelling
- Press-fit reinstallation with correct adapters — no hammer strikes, no eccentric pressure
- Final certified torque on all closure points
Industrial-specification technical grease
The rolling friction coefficient of a properly greased ball bearing is approximately:
μ_R ≈ 0.001 – 0.003
Three orders of magnitude lower than the sliding friction of a dry bearing. Grease degradation eliminates that advantage.
We work with SKF LGHP 2/1: mineral base with polyurea thickener, operating temperature -40°C to +150°C, high water resistance. For titanium–aluminium interfaces: Liqui-Moly copper paste. For integrated and semi-integrated headsets: Motorex 2000.
Grease selection is not improvised. Each zone has its specification.

FAQ_
Which bearings are serviced in the hardtail bearing protocol?
All frame bearings: bottom bracket (BB), front and rear hubs (2 bearings each), headset (upper and lower cups). Total of 6 to 8 bearings depending on the BB system and hub type.
How do I know if my bearings need service?
Clear symptoms: creaking or clicking under pedaling load, lateral movement at the bottom bracket, play or stiff rotation in the headset, dry rolling noise from hubs. Once these symptoms appear, damage is already underway. Preventive service every 12 to 18 months prevents damage to the frame's bearing seats.
Are all bearings replaced or only the damaged ones?
We inspect each bearing individually. If it spins smoothly, quietly and without play, we clean and regrease it. If there is play, pitting or irregular resistance, it is replaced. The service price covers the full procedure; replacement bearings are quoted separately by exact specification.
What grease is used?
SKF LGHP 2/1: mineral base with polyurea thickener, operating temperature -40°C to +150°C, high water resistance and load capacity. For titanium–aluminium interfaces: Liqui-Moly copper paste. For integrated headsets: Motorex 2000.
